Macugnaga, a little alpine village of Walser origin, has been made famous thanks to the magnificent Monte Rosa.
The East wall of the Monte Rosa attracted many mountaineers from many different countries due to its unique and varying ascents. The East wall of the Monte Rosa has similarities with the Himalayas and together with Mischabel it forms the highest concentrated area in the Alps above 4000 metres.
